Hairstyle guide

Curtains haircut: soft, face-framing layers.

This versatile style uses a center or near-center part to create a sweeping, open shape around the face. It can be short, medium, or long.

The result retained much of the length and opened the front around a center part. It is a subtle change rather than a short haircut, which shows why it helps to compare more than one direction.

How these examples were made

On October 20, 2026, we sent the same synthetic portrait to HairLook's live hairstyle image service twice, using the app's wolf-cut and curtains-haircut prompts. These are actual service outputs, not screenshots of the iPhone interface and not results from a real customer.

The requests changed only the hairstyle selection. We did not select a new hair color or apply face-editing controls. The source has been resized for the web; the results have been resized and compressed, without manual retouching. Outputs are shown in full, so you can also see the change in framing.

Both outputs changed some facial details and composition as well as hair. The curtain result stayed fairly close to the original length. AI previews can be inconsistent and do not predict how your own hair will grow, fall, or respond to a cut.

What defines a curtains haircut?

The defining feature is the parting: hair falls away from the face in two sections, like curtains. The exact length, fringe, and amount of layering determine whether it feels polished, retro, relaxed, or modern.

How to tailor the look

A stylist can place the shortest layers to highlight your cheekbones, soften your forehead, or simply work with your natural growth pattern. Straight hair often shows the shape clearly; wavy and curly hair can create a softer, fuller version.

Curtains haircut or curtain bangs?

A curtains haircut usually describes the overall parted silhouette, especially on short or medium hair. Curtain bangs describe the front section, which can be combined with a bob, long layers, or another cut. Bring a picture and point out whether you mean the entire shape or just the fringe.

Three details that change the result

Detail What to compare
Parting A true center part versus a slightly off-center part
Front length Pieces at the eyebrow, cheekbone, or below the jaw
Side shape A tighter outline versus fuller sides with movement

Consider your growth pattern

A cowlick or strong natural part can change how the front falls. Ask your stylist to assess your dry hair before choosing the shortest length. If the photo you like has a sweeping fringe, ask how much blow-drying it needs and whether that fits your usual morning routine.

Preview two lengths, then compare

In HairLook, compare a curtains haircut with a longer face-framing option. Keep the same selfie so you can focus on the hair rather than differences in lighting or pose. Notice where the fringe ends and whether the sides feel too full. Save the option you prefer as inspiration; the final cut should still be adjusted for your density and texture.

What to say at your appointment

Try: “I want the front to open away from my face, keep enough length to tuck it back, and work with my natural part. How short can we go while keeping that?” Replace those preferences with your own, and bring a photo showing your usual hair rather than only a styled reference.
